“Do I have a good invention?”

“Do I have a good invention?”
Blog by Taylor Phillips

What makes an invention a good invention? Is it something that makes money? Something that solves a problem? While both of those are well and good, the answer is not so black and white. You could get thousands upon thousands of different answers from many different experts and fellow inventors. The truth is, it takes many variables coming together to make a product an invention success. It’s impossible to pin down success to one specific thing.

First, as an inventor, you have to have passion for your idea. If you’re not excited about your own idea, who else will be? Passion will be the fuel needed to take your invention from an idea in your head to a product on store shelves. Plus, who really wants to work on something they don’t even care about? Passion is definitely a key component to realizing success as an inventor.

Recognize gaps in the marketplace. Entering into a crowded market forces you to compete against establish competitors, but finding and filling a gap can lead to great success. Noticing what society lacks and can benefit from is a necessary skill as an innovator. Follow a clear path and take advantage of attractive markets. Don’t use exhaustive efforts to try to get into a crowded market and pay specific attention to the desires of today’s consumers. If you’re looking to enter a shrinking or crowded market, it might be best to go back to the drawing board.

While there are various variables that make an invention successful, and it might seem difficult and maybe even confusing, it is definitely possible. Anyone, regardless of age, education level, occupation, etc. can be an inventor. With the right assistance and plan anything is possible. A great place to start is with Inventor Process!
